Why use a wood saturator ?

Here are the reasons why you should use a wood saturator.

apply wood saturator

Protection, durability

Wood saturator is a protective product that can be based on oil or various resins that nourish the wood. It saturates the material by impregnating it deeply, reducing its capacity to absorb water. This protects the wood against the weathering that causes it to grey. Saturation treatment also protects against the effects of chlorinated water on wood if it is used for decking. Such protection increases the durability of the wood. As a result, you can enjoy the benefits of your various wood products (cladding, decking, pergolas, garden furniture,...) for much longer.

Colouring, renovation

In addition to its protective role, what is a wood saturator? What can a wood saturator do for your decor? The saturator is also a product that can be used to coat wood. It is available in a range of colours. In addition to the colourless saturator, there are shades that imitate the tones of different woods (oak, Douglas fir, natural wood, etc.) and preserve the natural grain. You can also choose more original colour options (black, grey, white, etc.) to dress up your wood fittings. They can also be an interesting alternative to paint. What’s more, the various pigments contained in a coloured wood saturator provide even better protection against the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Wood saturator can also be used for renovation to bring out the original colours of the wood.

How do you apply wood saturator?

There are several steps to applying wood saturators. The first is to prepare the surface to be treated. This involves cleaning the surface to remove all impurities (dust, etc.). The surface must be clean so that the saturator can impregnate it properly. Stains from any old finishes should also be removed. You can strip or sand to make sure they are all removed. Then there’s the actual application stage.

We recommend that you apply the saturator in the direction of the wood grain, making sure that it penetrates well. The final stage is drying. You should leave the saturator to dry for at least 24 hours before putting the surface back into use. Saturator or protective oil should not be applied in wet weather. You should also avoid application at temperatures below 10° C or above 35° C. You should also avoid doing so when you notice mould or black spots on the wood.

Note: : applying saturator doesn’t require much equipment. All you need is a brush, roller or spalter. You can also use a sprayer if the surface is large. However, it is advisable to smooth the product with a brush after spraying.
