How Does Mold Form?

Mold usually forms when the home's ventilation is insufficient, combined with a high level of ambient humidity. Fungi or spores then appear in the form of various stains and colors.

Often appearing as black or greenish rings, mold and fungi primarily develop in the corners of wooden walls and ceilings. The problem can also affect wooden frames, beams, flooring, furniture, and even decks.

Humidity sometimes comes directly from the walls, due to water damage, heavy rainfall, or recurring leaks. Water rises by capillarity and penetrates the walls. Without proper ventilation, this creates ideal conditions for mold and fungus growth.

Frequent condensation, especially after showers without adequate ventilation, can also promote spore germination inside the building. You should therefore take measures to prevent these situations. Indeed, poorly controlled mold attacks can affect the lignin and make the wood soft and fragile.

This will significantly compromise the mechanical structure of the furniture, framework, or other wooden elements. Inhaling mold can also be hazardous to your health.

Current Methods for Removing Mold from Woodwork/span>

In addition to regular cleaning, several options, though temporary, are useful for combating mold, fungi, and spores.

You can use water mixed with bleach, baking soda, olive oil, or white vinegar—eco-friendly "homemade" products! These anti-mold solutions are most often applied as cleaners on:

  • walls,
  • tiles,
  • grout,
  • wooden floors…

Clean the surface, scrub, rinse, and wipe. This method requires regular maintenance, as it does not offer a permanent solution.

The good news is that Anova Bois offers you a permanent solution!

Practical Tips for Effective Product Application

To optimize the use of an anti-mold product for wood, thorough preparation of the deck, cladding, framework, or furniture is necessary beforehand.

The wood must be in perfect condition: clean, dry, free of dust, and without any residues from previous finishes. On old wooden surfaces, remove any traces of varnish, oil, paint, or stain.

For this, perform a deep cleaning. Strip old varnishes and paints, sand with sandpaper until you reach bare wood. Then carefully remove all dust from the surface to be treated. If necessary, wash the surface with water and soap and let it dry in the sun. Before using an anti-mold product, make sure to shake the bottle well. The ideal conditions for product application are at a temperature between 10 and 25°C.

However, you should avoid direct sunlight during application. Apply a coat of the sanitizing primer using a brush or sprayer, paying particular attention to the end grain. Let the product sit for at least 24 hours, then cover it with a suitable finish for exterior wood. Even though using an anti-mold product is simple and easy, don’t hesitate to seek advice or expertise from a qualified professional to ensure a successful application. This way, you can optimize the effectiveness and benefits of the treatment.
