How to use — Table Varnish

Preparing the wood

• Ensure the surface is clean, dry (moisture < 10%) and free from any previous finish.
• Sand back to bare wood if necessary, then dust off thoroughly.

Applying the varnish

• Product ready to use. Shake or stir well before application.
• Apply in the direction of the wood grain using a brush, a flat brush (spalter) or a short-nap roller.
• 2 to 3 coats recommended depending on use (3 coats for a heavily used table).

Drying

• Allow 2 hours minimum between coats (do not exceed 24 hours).
• Lightly sand (120–240 grit) after the first coat for a smooth finish.
• Remove dust before applying the next coat.
• Full cure is reached after several days.

Precautions after varnishing

• Do not place heavy or decorative objects on the surface during the first days.
• Do not cover the freshly varnished surface.
• Avoid aggressive cleaning products.

Pro tips

• Test on a scrap or an inconspicuous area before full application to validate the final look.
• Choose Matte for a natural, raw wood effect.
• Choose Gloss if you want a satin, luminous finish that highlights the wood grain.
• Prepare the substrate with a suitable primer:
• Tannin-rich or exotic woods: PAT400 Anti-Tannin Primer
• Other woods: BP400 Pore-Filling Primer

Caring for a varnished wooden table

Regular maintenance

• Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
• Use a mild soap such as SN800 Black Soap.

Renovation

• If wear is visible, lightly sand and apply a new coat of VTB500 Table Varnish.
